OUR CURATED HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER ✹
Our highlights for October.
Next art & design events coming up:
Frieze, October 9-13, of course. Our must-sees include Olafur Eliasson’s Lifeworld at Piccadilly Circus, George Rouy’s solo exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, and Anna Weyant’s first London exhibition at Gagosian. More info.
Venice Design Week, October 12-20, Venice keeps on giving: after Daniel Arsham’s exhibition in September, it now makes design lovers return to the city with VDW. What to expect? A program molto veneziano around its heritage of glass making and lightning, precious textiles, and beautiful workshops like the Art of Backgammon. More info.
Dutch Design Week, October 19-27, we know the Dutchies are fearless explorers so be ready for the unusual. Instead of the elegant and luxurious objects on show during Milan or Paris Design Week, in Eindhoven, you find innovative materials and experimental projects. In a nutshell: a refreshing take on design. More info.
DOK Leipzig, October 28-November 3, the capital’s cooler little brother Leipzig is inviting film professionals and curious to explore the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. The opening film “Tracing Light” by Thomas Riedelsheimer explores the phenomenon of light between art and physics. The festival venues are located across the city. More info.
Cubo ashtray designed by Munari for Danese Milano (1957)
What we found inspiring lately:
Bruno Munari, born in Milan, was the enfant terrible of Italian art and design for most of the twentieth century. In his book “Design as Art” he reflects on the spoken and unspoken rules of design. “The stylist works by contrast. After a season of violet, one can predict a season of yellow.” resonated much with us, just after fashion week month is over and we feel our whole wardrobe is outdated - again. But thankfully Berlin black is timeless. Another quote of him we love: “L'uovo ha una forma perfetta benché sia fatto col culo.” We leave the translation up to your own research.
Have a great start into October,
Your NeueHaus Team
